Low-Profile Design for Tight Spaces

The SC series electric shear wrench is specifically designed for tight spaces. The most challenging part of assembly is tightening studs located between two columns or metal blocks. The low-profile SC series model meets this need for studs up to M36. The SC-36B device applies 3500 N·m of torque to M36 studs, which generally fulfills standard requirements.

Corner Type Shear Wrench – Electric Torque Wrench

The shear wrench is a specialized torque tool used primarily for tightening TCB (Tension Control Bolt) studs. During the tightening process, the device automatically breaks off the protruding end of the stud once the predetermined torque level is reached. This breaking point corresponds to the maximum tensile stress specified in the project during the manufacturing of the TCB stud.

Unlike standard electric torque wrenches, shear wrenches do not require torque adjustment. The device continues tightening until the stud’s end piece breaks off, indicating that the required torque has been achieved. The tightening process is completed with the breaking action.

Shear Wrench Torque Capacity: 3500 N·m

Corner-type shear wrenches are designed for studs ranging from M16 to M36. Four different models provide a torque capacity of up to 3500 N·m. Each metric size has a dedicated socket, which consists of two parts: an inner and an outer socket that grip both the stud and the nut. Shear wrenches are available in models operating at both 220V and 115V with 50/60Hz voltage compatibility

How Does a Shear Wrench Work?

Electric shear wrenches are used for tightening pre-tensioned studs, which are custom-manufactured for each project. The breaking point of the stud is precisely set according to the required pre-tension value. In practice, the final torque value is determined by the stud’s breaking point rather than the device itself.

Each shear wrench is equipped with a specialized socket for different stud and nut sizes. The socket consists of two parts:

• Outer socket: Holds the nut that tightens the stud.
• Inner socket: Grips the stud tail, which breaks off once the pre-tension value is reached.

The 12-point tail also serves as a support foot, preventing the stud from rotating. The tightening capacity of the device exceeds the breaking torque of the stud tail.
