The stud-shear electric torque wrench is a specialized tool designed for tightening Tension Control Bolts (TCBs). This electric torque device shears off the protruding tip of the bolt once the preset tension level is reached, ensuring accurate and consistent fastening. The shear point is engineered into the bolt during manufacturing and corresponds to the maximum tensile load specified in the project. Unlike standard torque wrenches, shear wrenches do not require manual torque adjustment — they operate until the bolt tail breaks off, indicating that the desired preload has been achieved.

Torque Capacity: Up to 3500 N·m

Stud-shear torque wrenches (shear wrenches) are typically used for bolts ranging from M16 to M36. Torque capacities vary between 640 N·m and 3500 N·m, with M36 bolts requiring the maximum 3500 N·m. Each wrench model is compatible with multiple bolt sizes, and comes with dedicated inner and outer sockets for each metric size. The inner socket grips the 12-point tail of the bolt, while the outer socket holds the nut, ensuring precise, stable operation. These electric wrenches are available in models operating at 220V or 115V, 50/60Hz, making them ideal for high-precision applications in a wide range of work environments

How Does a Shear Wrench Work?

The shear wrench is used for tightening tension-controlled bolts which are specially manufactured for each project. The final torque is not determined by the wrench but by the preset shear point on the bolt tail, which ensures precise preload values.

Each shear wrench is equipped with custom sockets — an outer socket to grip the nut and an inner socket to engage the 12-point tail of the bolt. Once the required tension is reached, the tail shears off cleanly. The tail also acts as a stabilizing foot, preventing bolt rotation during tightening. The torque capacity of the wrench is always higher than the breaking strength of the bolt tail, ensuring consistent and efficient performance.
